Dear Lucky

Dear Alisha

I'm not Irish, I don't drink beer, and my kids aren't allowed to pinch, regardless of what someone is or isn't wearing. Why should I celebrate St. Patrick's Day and how?

Sincerely,
Lucky

Dear Lucky,

What I like most about St. Patrick's Day is the fresh green color. That is also the only thing I like about it. I could have written your question myself. Let's just sit this one out.

Speaking of green and while I have your attention, what do you think of the above
green dress? It is for sale on ebay and I am considering buying it for myself for summer. It is an original from the 60's, never been worn, and in my size. What I like about it: fresh color, love the light cotton fabric, the sweetness, and like I said It's From The Early 60'S! My concerns are: it might be too big (I know vintage is way smaller but I checked the measurements), will it be flattering-those pretty pleats around the waist could be bad, or is it too juvenile, too frumpy? I am trying to imagine my figure filling it out.
Tell me what you think and none of you better buy it out from under me. I'll notice.

Here is is from the back: (of course I will would wear a slip with it)

Maybe it is a little over the top, but I really want to buy this dress. I'm worried about the size. It's measurements are exactly my measurements and I'm afraid it might be too tight. I don't want to look stuffed.

Justin loves the 60's stewardess look, or is this more Star Trek?

Maybe?
There are plenty more I love but some of the images can not be posted. Hopefully I will pick a few cute ones with out looking like a clown.

well, you'd definately have to wear a slip. and iron it. Then you'd be a little mint julep hanging off Justin's arm.

I'd never guess 60's though. it looks way older than that.

I like it. get it so you can do a post about how awful it fits and how you hate it.

Pink dress cute, green dress, not so much. Hey you asked for an opinnion.
About St. Patricks day. I think there are lots of way to celebrate St. Patricks day....I don't really know why, but the green is fun and different. And why not make it a special day for your kids. Green eggs and ham for breakfast would be fun. My mother always hid lepercaun (sp?) coupons around the house and we would be on a treasure hunt to find them. Some would say lucky you you get a magazine of your choice, or you get an icecream and there was one for a pot of gold which was all the change in my moms coin purse. Others would say your lepercaun got away better luck next time. You can have the coupons say whatever you want and then hide them. It is fun for kids and it makes a fun tradition and it doesn't break the bank if you don't want it to. So although I am not sure what St. Patricks day is celebrated for you can make it a fun and special day for the family.

Mint julep... haha.

(And obviously you'd wear a bra with the white one)

I'd be self conscious about any form of a roll showing in the dress, I'd probably feel the need to wear a sweater with it as well.

Do you still have your dyed-to-match mint green pumps from J.H.?- 'Cause they'd probably look nice with the dress.

One time for St. Patrick's Day I bought the kids Lucky Charms cereal for breakfast, but I repented the next day and we've never spoken of the incident since.

(Glad I got that off my chest)

i like the third one the best but not in love with any of them. i like the color of the green, but i think it would make your (not you, but your in general) hips look huge unless you don't have any. also, if you have a larger chest then it will not be flattering with that neckline and the vertical stripes.
but i could be wrong, hard to tell without seeing it on a person.
i agree with jana - get them!

*horizontal not vertical.

So I love the blue one, but that's just me. I'm liking the scalloped edge especially.
I think you should get the green one too. It would be cute with a jacket over it too, or maybe a big belt? How often do you find a cute vintage dress with your exact measurements?

For what it's worth, I LOVE the white dress!

All right Alisha, you should know that if I was to see this I would be a little more Honest than you might like!! But what are Aunts (with fashion design degree's) for anyway! The green dress; nice color, fabric would be nice for sommer if you still lived in Arizona but Oregon? The neckline and sleeve YUK! And it would have to be ironed more than linen! The pink is real cute from what I can see but what would you do for sleeves!! The white PLEASE NO!! and the Blue has a few possitives but but the sleeve again not to good and I would realy have to see it on. Alot of cloths can look funny on hangers but look good on!! As far as ST. Pat's day, I like green, I'm not going to where all green because it's st. Pat's day. when I was young I use to kind of hide the little green I was wearing cause if someone pinched me I got to pinch them back 5 times!!

typical. Someone asked advice about St. Patty's day...and all you did was talk about yourself. unless you are the one who wrote your own question?

Anonymous said...

seriously, they all have something to offer, but all in all I wouldn't be wearing anyone of them - I would be self cautious of Nena Garcia or Micheal Kors critique of me in it. yikes. The fabric is too thin, and maybe has lost it's strength. frame it don't wear it.

again, what was with the whole Saint Patty's Day question, are you writing your own question, because you dissed that question like something else..shame on you..answer the question.

I'm really not a fan of the green frock. I just don't see that style on you, but maybe if it was actually worn by a person (possibly yourself) IN person it would change my mind.

As for St. Patty's day, you'll never understand the true AWESOMENESS of that day until you have:

a) Lived in close proximity of Chi-town and get to witness them dye the river green, as well as see everyone, I mean EVERYONE in their festive garb. Not to mention the fun St. Patrick's Day Parade. Oh, and green beer too is pretty cool too. . . to look at of course ;-)

b) Lived within a stone's throw from ND campus and was hanging near either Legends or the Linebacker to see all of the festivities. Oh, and being named Taryn, Camryn and having the nickname of Dame (with the middle name of Patrick) produced a lot of attention within the Fighting Irish borders.

c) Going to Mass at St. Patrick's Catherdral off of Madison Ave. to experience the reverent side of the holiday.

I enjoy all the fun that is put on around me, but I've never taken any initiative to do anything for the holiday, well, except wearing green (or not when I was in HS) and hiding some red to get "lucky"(also worn from Jr HS until present).

Thanks for the feedback!

Dallman's-I love the ideas! I might actually do something for St.P day this year now.

Anonymous-it's my blog. Of course it will be about me. (Could there be anyone else more interesting?)
And I did answer the question- I skip it.
Taryn, there's a reverent side? Who new!? :)

I didn't feel dissed at all. On the contrary, Alisha validated my opinion of the holiday. Seems like we both think it’s pretty pointless and a hard (non?)holiday to get excited about.

St. Patrick's Day isn't THAT interesting of a topic - I can't imagine getting 13 comments this quickly about clovers and leprechauns – so Alisha gave those who don't care something else to talk about, while those who do celebrate the holiday have the comment room to share ideas. It's like two posts in one.

To answer the question I didn't ask...I like Justin’s ivory pick. (Don’t you have a black dress with ivory trim of a similar shape? It’s really flattering on you.) Think Jackie O. instead of Star Trek if that makes you feel better.

15 comments in one day?! It's pretty obvious we all want to hear about Alisha! She is like a blogging celebrity now.

If you are wanting to get a vintage dress get a pencil dress. You were made to wear pencil dresses!

I LOVE browsing through vintage dresses on Etsy and Ebay. There are a few stores on Etsy that recreate vintage style dresses to fit your measurements AND you can pick the kind of fabric you want.

Here are some that I saw awhile ago and wanted for myself, but think they would look even more smokin' hot on you...

Green dress, I like, it's kinda like a Marc Jacobs style.
If your worried about fit, it's not a forgiving one. For one thing, it's thin. so the rolls will show. Second, the waist isn't cut wider at the hips. The pink dress looks nice, but I'm not going for the neckline, it looks like its a mock neckline..not for summer. I agree with Jana, buy it and blog for us!!

here's a nice store you may want to visit www.fashionhalo.com

Green and pink dresses - too chancy. Blue eeyeewwww! Yes to the white one. You could pull it off really darling - like they said, Jackie O style.

I always forget about that holiday and have to pull out the "oh but I have green eyes!" trick to avoid getting pinched. But once in a while when the kids were young I made green pancakes for breakfast or green koolaid (ok it was a long time ago and we drank koolaid then)

You would look super cute in the pink dress, but my gut says the green one will disappoint you. The others aren't so much your style (at least what I percieve as your style)....my two cents!

alisha, those dresses are amazin..go for the pink party dress, nothing like a nice little cocktail dress to make weight loss a goal. As for St. Pats day "I'm not Irish so, looking for a pot of gold under a rainbow isn't my cup of tea neither is getting beaten up by a leprechaun for it"

I didn't know that was a holiday people took seriously. Green dress, hideous. I hate it. Pink dress has potential, Ivory dress is sooooo treky like from another planet, and Blue is very plain jane.

Because I can't help myself (left out from my last comment)-

"Pencil dresses look best on curvy women with nice full racks. Now that I have stopped breastfeeding my rack is close to non-existent ;( Guess I should start on baby number 4 so I can get that 21 month boob job."

Ok, time to ground myself from blogging again.

I personally love the green dress but I can't see you wearing it. I love the fabric (although it would wrinkle something fierce), the old fashioned feel to it, and the fact that it would have some motion to it when you move, but the color would be a hard one to pull off except around Easter.

About St. Pats day... we always wear green and some leprechauns sneak into the house and dye all the milk green and then we normally end up with green pancakes/eggs etc. Somehow green milk just doesn't taste the same as normal milk.

Hey, I know what you get you in the St. Patty's spirit fast! I was at Target yesterday and they have all these green t-shirts with REALLY cute and funny sayings on them. like "I'll be your leprachan!" and things like that. You could get some for the whole family.

OR I know you like to save money and budget, you could wait until they're on clearance like a week after and get them then. just trying to help.

Ahh Jana, I got such a laugh at that. I could so totally see the whole Garrity family decked out in those Target shirts!!
